Riding into the Sunset – Chattanooga Wedding Photography

For me, I love when a couple starts with a cute meeting story, and for Carey & Kevin, their “meet cute” sounds like it belongs on the silver screen…..an ER nurse & EMT’s eyes meet in the trauma room and the rest is history.

Their wedding was just as beautiful as their story. The couple chose the magnificent Signal Mountain Presbyterian to share their vows. The church featured beautiful stain-glass windows, stone walls, and beautiful gardens. What a perfect setting!

The Reception was held at The Mill, a fun venue that is rich in history and character.  The venue features a large beautiful event space adorned by brick columns, wood rafter ceilings, and exposed brick walls. During the dancing, Dustin set up a photo booth next to the dance floor and had a great time capturing the fun photos of everyone at the wedding.

One of my favorite features of The Mill, is it had train tracks behind the building, which allowed Carey & Kevin to make their grand sparkler getaway on the back of a train. It was a true fairy-tale ending as the couple rode into the sunset.

Best wishes to Carey and Kevin for a lifetime of happiness.

Jonah {10 days news} – Newborn Photography

I was fortunate to have taken Deborah and Yonas’s maternity photos just a few months ago, and just recently, I re-connected with the couple to meet their newborn, Jonah.

It’s always an honor to be asked to photograph a family for a second time, but this shoot was particularly special. Seeing this couple’s sweet baby filled my heart, as I was able to witness firsthand the amazing beauty and love that life brings.

Baby Jonah was sleepy, yet full of expression. I got multiple adorable shots of him cuddling with his Mom and Dad, and several of him in various props and settings. Some of my favorite shots are the ones I edited in black and white.

It was a joy to photograph this picture perfect family! Thank you Deborah and Yonas for letting me capture this significant chapter in your life.

Unique & Lovely – Family Portrait Photography

Family portraits capture memories, personalities and most importantly, the unique love a family shares. During my session with the Long family, I experienced the undeniable affection they had for one another, and I am confident that the photographs from this shoot express their special bond. Niki, David and their daughter, Harper, couldn’t have been more adorable. They made my job easy!

The family came dressed in clothes that fit a blue, pink and white color scheme, which translated beautifully into their pictures. Harper’s sundresses

served as the connecting fabric with a spring-like floral print that included each of the shoot’s hues. Her Mom and Dad sported solid colored tops and denim.

When positioning the family, I made sure they were all close to one another. I also avoided your standard poses so the family’s characters could shine. I was successful in this approach, as there is laughter in practically every shot.

I was also very pleased with the natural lighting that illuminated the family’s faces. Such light is ideal, as it offers a certain glow that is absolutely beautiful.

The Long family is about to journey to Africa for mission work. I hope these photos are enjoyed by their family and friends while they are away. Safe travels!

When to add props to your Photography Session

Adding props to your session is an easy way to make your session different, unique, and most importantly, a reflection of YOU. Bring your child’s favorite toy, or incorporate your families’ favorite hobby. This doesn’t have to be cheesy. It can simply mean shooting at your favorite park, or as far as doing a “themed”  shoot for that funky family. Showing your baby’s sonogram photo at your maternity session, can help mark this moment in your pregnancy. Or sharing your child favorite toy of the moment, helps you remember that special phase of their lives.

I welcome you to incorporate any props into your photography session that help tell your story.

Fun. Fresh. Timeless – What to wear for your Photos

creating your custom look for your unique photo session

One of the most important decisions to make when planning your session is your clothing. Whether its planning for a family, a senior, a newborn or your children, there are some things to keep in mind. The only hard “rule” I have is to choose outfits that reflect your personality and really make you FEEL amazing. Don’t wear anything uncomfortable, even if it “works” because you’ll be thinking of nothing but getting the session over with so you can change.

There are some guidelines that can help when choosing clothing for your session, but remember, almost anything goes. Many clients find it easiest to build an outfit for one person based on the below rules and build from there. Harmonize using patterns and colors: Everyone should NOT match. Yes, I said please do not match everyone. Matching is easy, but coordinating is funky and fun. It allows each individual to be unique, and it makes the photographs much more interesting. Patters, colors and textures can complement each other without clashing. Mix it up a little and add some excitement to your images! Pair patterns with a solid accent to focus less on the pattern. Adding texture with lace, wool, denim or corduroy. No need to advertise with graphics and logos!

Layers, Layers, Layers…. and accessorize! Add your favorite necklace, jacket, hat or scarf. This goes for ALL. Spice up your session with some visual interest and change, without changing outfits. Stand out with your favorite headband, belt or piece of jewelry. Hats and headbands are perfect for kiddos too. Trendy, AND timeless The thing about fashion is that it goes out of fashion. Keep “trendy” under control and pick some pieces that are timeless.

Wear clothing that fits with the locations we are shooting at. Girls, leave those heels at home if we’re heading to the woods. While this can work, it has to be the look we are going for. Keep in mind the season, because most of all you want to be comfortable in whatever you are wearing.

I am always here for suggestions, so feel free to email me or call me before your session and I would be more than happy to make recommendations!

Baby + Bling = Blessed – Atlanta Piedmont Park Photography

I recently got the opportunity to meet Deborah and Yonas, a darling couple that offers proof that life brings us blessings in waves at times. With a baby boy and wedding in their near future, it’s no wonder this pair is gushing with glee!

The couple selected Piedmont Park in the heart of Atlanta for their engagement/maternity photo shoot.  Sporting both a baby bump and some bling on her ring finger, Deborah was on cloud nine the entire day. The couple had fun incorporating props such as blocks, a picture frame, their sonogram picture and stringed paper letters, reading “boy.” And I must say… the city’s building scape and the park’s beautiful features served as the perfect backdrop. I couldn’t have asked for a better shoot!

I wish all the happiness in the world to this sweet couple as they enter this new life chapter!

A Joy Filled Day on Jekyll Island – Engagement Portrait

William and Katherine’s engagement shoot was packed with laughter and happiness. My assistant (aka Dustin the dog and diffuser wrangler) and I even found our sides and cheeks sore by the end of the day from laughing with the couple. Rowdy, the couple’s rescue dog, added to the merriment, posing in a number of family shots.
For the couple’s engagement shoot, we traveled all over Jekyll Island, a prime location for photography. From the Historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel to Driftwood Beach to Great Dunes Park, we were able to capture a wide spectrum of beautiful images.
After a fun day of exploring the Jekyll’s wonders, I know William and Katherine’s journey together will be just as adventure filled. There’s no doubt that this July, St. Simons will witness a beautiful wedding like none other!

Amore in Midtown Atlanta – Atlanta Engagement Photography

The everlasting romance between Ayana and Khalid began its first chapter at the Intermezzo Café, a charming European Coffeehouse in Midtown Atlanta. In a meeting place specially crafted to provide a tranquil, stress-free atmosphere, the pair’s love brewed as the conversation and coffee continued to flow.

The couple chose to celebrate their engagement with a photoshoot at the café where their first date was held . Here their love was apparent in every shot. As they looked into each other’s eyes I couldn’t help but smile. It’s obvious that these two beautiful individuals are head over heels for one another.

This summer Ayana and Khalid will say “I do” in New York. With eight years of wedding and event planning experience, Ayana is sure to pull off a stunning ceremony and reception. Learn more about her business at www.perfectlypoisedevents.com.
